Antique Sconces - Overview and Installation
Antique sconces are basically a
type of wall sconces that adds that historical ambient to any home they are installed in. The best
homes to have these sconces are period or historic homes, or those with period type of furniture in
them.
There are many different types of antique sconces available providing you with
antique lighting beauty, including antique brass wall sconces, antique candle sconces, antique bronze sconces,
antique mirror sconces, antique wall sconces and French antique sconces. Each has its own charming way of
illuminating the environment it is installed in and people usually match them to their own furniture in the
room to create a balanced and comfortable, even romantic ambient. These sconces can be found in pair of two,
so they can be easily installed on the both sides of a bathroom mirror or bed in the bedroom.
Installing antique sconces light fixtures is very easy and usually there is a diagram or
instructions on how best to do it.
Steps For Instsalling Antique Sconces:
-
If using already wall fixtures, best is to replace them with wall sconces as the installation is much
easier this way.
-
Turn off all the electricity going to the wall fixture. Also turn off the light switch and the breaker
for the room. Remove the light bulb and get the screws that hold the fixture in place loose.
-
Before loosening the wires, note the ground wire particularly if you are living in a relatively older
house. Depending on the country, the wire color might be different. While US fixtures have green,
several foreign made fixtures will have yellow as ground wire.
-
Now connect the wires by the use of plastic wire connectors. The way you do it is first twist the wires
together and then use the plastic connector to push it over the wires safe in place. Finally push the
wires in the wall box.
-
Now install the faceplate of the antique sconces using the installation instructions that came with the
lighting device. Sometimes you will find screws included in the kit as well, so you can use those.
-
When you install the wall sconces lamps it is easier than other types of lights because you will find
that many wall sconces can usually only be installed in one position, so there is no chance of screwing
it up. SO make sure you read the directions properly as you might find something similar to 'install as
shown'. This means that you have to install exactly as described in the graph, as there is no other
position proper for installation.
-
As a last step turn on the breaker and enjoy your new set of antique sconces
Antique wall sconces are not only used for bringing extra light in
particular area of a house, but also they are used for decorative purposes. They bring back a sense of history
in the place when they are installed, and with good reason. The first wall sconces have been seen since the
medieval times when they were used as torches that would last longer if tallow and a wick were used together.
The torches were mounted in various metal mounting brackets and you could see them outside the walls of many
castles.
