Glass Wall Sconces - Handmade And Imitations

Glass wall sconces are some of the most loved types of wall sconces lighting on the market today. You can find wall sconces in many different materials, however glass gives them a modern, contemporary look. The reason is because glass can be easily handmade by lampworking or glass hand blowing, which makes the final piece as unique in appeal as you want it to be.

Murano glass is well known for many years, back from the 13th century when the famous glass lampworkers from Venice were all banned to the island of Murano. This ensured that the secret knowledge on how to make various glass objects from is glass remained a secret. The craftsmen were not allowed to share their knowledge with anyone and they could not leave the island either, unless were interested in having their lives ended.

It is a fact that in all glassmaking around the world, the Murano glassmakers were the leaders from the Middle Ages right until about the 19-20th Century when the Bohemian Czeh glassmakers have really taken the lead. Also the Bohemian glassmakers were those that actually shared their knowledge with the world so now people all over the world can easily make various objects of art from glass blowing and lampworking (including beautiful lampworked beads and jewelry objects).
