Installing Wall Sconces At Home
Wall sconces lighting has a way
of giving any home or backyard that elegant, historical touch that reminds strongly of the bygone era. Many people
love reading books and watching period movies, and being surrounded by wall sconces in their home or patio is one
way of feeling closers to those times that are no longer there.
Also they are perfect in giving indirect illumination to
rooms, hallways and stairways. Many times they are installed in smaller rooms to give the illusion of a larger
place than it really is (see picture below).
There are several ways of making the most of your
wall sconces lighting, for example by installing the sconces
around various mirrors that will give a very soft, subdued and focuses task lighting. There are also many
sizes, designs and shapes that you can easily buy to enhance and match perfectly your room. When you install
your wall sconces, you should not use them as your main source of illumination in the room. They should work
together with other sources of lighting, as they are not adequate for particular tasks such as needlepoint or
reading.
Some people have never had wall sconces
lighting in their homes before and installing their first might be a bit daunting at first. However it is
not as difficult as it might originally seem. If you've ever installed any kind of light fixtures, you're already
halfway there, as the basis schematic diagram for installing the sconces is pretty much the same with the diagram
for any other lighting fixtures. The main difference is really in the place of installation and the type of fixture
box you will be using.
You can attach one or multiple sconces to one switch or you can control them from various
locations in the room by using 3 way switches.

What you need to install wall sconces:
Installing the wall sconce:
-
First make sure that you switch off the main power in the house.
-
Mount a universal bracket to the electrical box. This will basically keep the sconce lighting. Make
sure to strip the supply lines with the wire stripper to show approximately half an inch of bare wire.
-
Now go ahead and attach the ground strap to the mounting device using the screws that were given along
with the sconce.
-
Use a wire nut to connect the ground wire to the ground strap by inserting both wires in the nut and
twisting lightly.
-
Next attach the white wire to the white supply wire with a second wire nut.
-
Attach the black wire to teh black hot supply wire.
-
Place the wall sconce on the mounting strap and if you have any embellishment nuts that have been given
together with the sconce lighting, screw them on as well.
-
Secure the switch and once you're sure that you've installed the wall sconce, turn on the power from
the main supply and check that you have a working sconce on your wall.
